Biraha
is the form of music sung by the Ahir community. Ahirs
as a community are people who raise cattle for milk.
Biraha is one of the most important forms of folk music
that exist today.
There is controversy among scholars about the meaning
of the word Biraha. Some feel it is derived from the word
'Birah' meaning separation - others feel - from 'Vir'
meaning brave. The subjects of 'Biraha' songs is not restricted
to either though.
