Kesariya Banna, mehndi pe aaya,
Mehndi pe aaya, dekho dwarey pe aaya
Essence
Invocation to the Banna (groom to be) by the married ladies who successively represent light/wisdom as the diya(lamp) with its four wicks symbolizing good fortune in all directions; sensuality as the paanwaali; fertility as the maalan (gardener) who tends to her family. The attribution of the colour saffron (kesariya) symbolizing masculinity to the Banna offsets the colour green (paan, maalan) attributed to the women symbolizing fertility.
