Songs
sung in Spring season in Kumaon are known as Rituraina
songs.
These are sung specifically by professional singers known
as 'Dholis' or 'Mirasis'. They go from village to village
singing and claiming 'their share', known as 'chaitol'
for the spring months.
In earlier times, some of these songs had dancers dancing
to them - these were known as 'Kafaliya' - but they are
rarely heard these days.
