| Ritualistic
songs sung during various ceremonies like birth, child
naming, weddings and others, are known as Shakunakhar
or Phaag songs. Just like the 'Shagun' or auspicious occasion
songs like 'Sohar', 'Banna', 'Banni' sung in the other
regions of UP, these are sung mostly by a group of women
in an informal setting. In fact there is a strong influence
of Awadhi and Braji songs on some of the Shakunakhar songs
of Kumaon.
